Innovative Thin & Light notebook launch under new brand U Leader Design
CES – Las Vegas - January 2009 – U Leader Design, invented by Italian Company Olidata S.p.A, unveiled at CES the innovative and stylish thin and light notebook developed with support from Intel Corporation. Just 21.8mm at its thickest point and weighing less than 1.6 kg, the U Leader Design notebook is a showcase of ultra-mobility and thermal engineering in a fashionable design. It was designed for today's most demanding road warriors, as one the thinnest and lightest on the market and it combines a number of leading technologies such as small form factor low voltage Intel® Core™2 Duo processors. The U Leader Design notebook also features solid-state drive storage, an LED backlit display, ultra-long battery life and enhanced wireless connectivity such as WiFi, WiMAX and 3G technology.
Despite its small size and elegant design, the notebook offers a wide range of functionality typically associated with larger notebooks, and includes Ethernet and a wide selection of ports (USB, HDMI, VGA, Audio I/O) on board or through its external port replicator making it suitable for both consumer and business end users.

The U Leader Design notebook, codenamed “Conte”, will be available on the market starting from second quarter of 2009 and it will be positioned with a target price below 1,000 Euro. Other key features include:
- Performance acceleration – this feature, via the Intel® Turbo Memory allows the user to choose and control which applications or files are loaded into the Intel® Turbo Memory cache for performance acceleration in order to improve user's activity, such as PC gaming, office work, or home tasks.
- SmartDisk – this feature implements the Hard-Disk Drive (HDD) Protection application from damaging caused by sudden harmful shocks. It monitors system movements that exceed the defined shock threshold. Once a shock is detected, it instructs the HDD to park the heads to prevent the heads from scrapping the disk surface and damage the drive.
- SmartAlarm – this feature implements the Anti-Theft application and protects the system from theft by triggering a sound alarm when there is an unauthorized system movement occurred. The users can arm the Anti-Theft feature in conjunction with their Windows system lock and disarm the alarm through standard Windows logon process.
- SmartScreen – this feature implements the screen rotation between portrait and landscape based on notebook position.
- Multiple gesture touchpad – more than a standard touchpad, it also provides capabilities such as a circular gesture called chiral scroll and pinch options.
- 3G and WiMAX – in order to assure the best mobility experience user can choose between HSDPA (3.5G) or WiMAX/WiFi (using the Intel® WiMAX/WiFi Link 5350 wireless network adapter) network connection to access anywhere and every time his favorites content and applications from the internet cloud.
- Battery life extension – the system is designed to support an external expanded battery in order to add more battery life. It supports both the main and the expanded battery packs at the same time and second battery can be applied without any notebook shut down (hot mode).
- Professional backlit keyboard – reminiscent of old-school tactile desktop keyboards with just enough “click” to get even the most die-hard tech enthusiast smiling.
- Miniport replicator – extensive usability via a variety of I/O ports, including microphone, RJ45 (1x), USB 2.0 (2x) and VGA (1x).
